Staying Healthy

The forest itself is a source of health and joy, but in addition to hiking and biking, many SFHA members participate in physical activities led by other residents.  Exercise routines and several levels of yoga classes are offered at the Robin Hood Centre.  A program of water aerobics (as well as individual lap-swimming) takes place at the pool throughout the summer.

The little village affords several shops and food services.  Fresh, locally-grown produce is available year-round at the WhistleStop Market, and at farmer’s markets in Brevard, Hendersonville and Flat Rock. Organic fruits and vegetables, hormone-free beef, free-range poultry and eggs, and fresh trout make healthy eating easy and delicious. Changing seasons bring an ever-changing harvest: juicy peaches, tangy tomatoes, creamy corn, okra and beans in the summer; squash, glowing pumpkins and famously crisp apples in the fall.
