Welcome to Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest is a small and unique community 8 miles southeast of Brevard, North Carolina. Our 1,000-acre mountain development is almost entirely buffered by mature woodland, including approximately 400 acres of protected green area with more than 20 miles of scenic hiking trails. Our home sites, roads, and amenities are designed to protect the overall forest environment.  Sherwood was established for people who choose to live in harmony with the native plants and animals that are encouraged to thrive here.

In addition to the focus on nature, Sherwood Forest also promotes a strong sense of community.  The Homeowners’ Association is run by its members, who work together to maintain community services and Association amenities.  From roads to bridges, the pool to the lakes, finances to mailboxes – volunteers take care of Sherwood Forest by working together on committees.  The many ways members work together help residents to quickly meet and get to know their neighbors, and to nurture the ties of community life.

Another strength of our community life is the wide variety of enrichment opportunities: organic plots in an eco-friendly community garden, a stimulating lecture series, book groups, discussion groups, yoga classes, musical programs, recreational activities, and opportunities to hike with naturalists. Every season brings its own special charms – soup suppers in the winter, wildflower walks in the spring, old-fashioned family picnics at the barn during the summer, and canoeing on the lakes when autumn colors blaze.

Members also enjoy fishing on five lakes, summer swimming in the heated junior Olympic pool, hiking the trails, playing tennis, and golfing on an executive course where the hazards include beautiful Little River, roughs of wildflower beds, mountain streams, and an occasional llama caddy. Private homes, vacation cottages, cluster homes, and condominiums afford residential opportunities for every lifestyle, nestled in the woods.
